Which Airport to Use

Short version: fly into Bergamo if you can. BGY is 40 km from Lecco — that's your closest option, by quite a margin, and the drive (45–55 min via SS342) avoids the Milan ring road entirely. Most UK, Irish, and Eastern European routes land here on Ryanair.

Linate is 50 km — fine if that's your connection. The SS36 north is a decent road and you get a good view of the Resegone coming in as the motorway curves toward the lake. About 55–65 minutes.

Malpensa's 75 km and 70–80 minutes. It's where transatlantic flights land and the bigger Star Alliance routes; if that's where you're arriving, it's what it is. Route goes A52 then SS36. Still fine, just the longest of the three.

Already in Milan? Train from Centrale to Lecco takes 40 minutes, costs €5–8, and is perfectly good when you're travelling light. Coming direct from an airport with bags, though — two changes, Malpensa Express then regional train, 2 hours 30 minimum, and the bag-carrying gets old fast. Lecco vs Como vs Bellagio

Genuinely depends what you're after. Como's better connected, has more going on, also more crowded and twice the hotel prices. Bellagio is achingly pretty and absolutely mobbed in summer — every other person is carrying a selfie stick. Lecco has the mountain drama without the crowds, cheaper accommodation (€80–€180/night vs €150–€400 in Bellagio), and you can take the ferry to Bellagio when you want the view and come back to a quieter evening. That trade-off works well for most people.

Easily. Ferry from Lecco pier takes about 55 minutes and runs several times a day. It's the cheap way and honestly quite nice — you see the lake properly.
